Wolves are amazing creatures and are demonised in children's books. But actually they are pretty wonderful creatures. Here are a few facts about wolves that you might not know.

  1. They can use their triangular shaped ears that rotate independently, to hear sounds from 6 to 10 miles away depending on the terrain and wind. (Wolf.org)

  2. Dogs are descended from wolves sharing 99.8% of their DNA but are very different from their wild relatives. (Treehugger.com)

  3. Wolves do howl at night but this has nothing to do with the moon. They convey messages to wolves up to ten miles away and can help to assemble members, locate missing pack members or defend territory. (Treehugger.com)
